After our 2 nights camping on the Okavango Delta we had a night in a hotel in Maun. The hotel was lovely, with a pool so we could go swimming, and a bar and restaurant which were right next to the pool. More importantly, the hotel had running water and toilets that flushed!

The next morning we headed back out in the truck to go to another part of the delta, this time to a lagoon where we would be glamping for a night. This means permanent tents, with en-suite bathrooms, and in this case elevated walkways between them all. It was deep in the forest and our neighbours were mostly monkeys – sadly I didn’t take photos of them. Monkeys are not my favourite animal, they’re just too unpredictable and very mobile – I don’t trust them, but these left us alone.

In the afternoon we had a few quiet hours due to the heat, and we sat in the shade, chatting and playing poker. By about 4pm it was cooling down slightly, so we went out on a boat for a couple of hours to see the sunset and see the wildlife, mostly birds. It was a lovely couple of hours. It was so nice to be out on the water again, and as ever the scenery was incredible. We mostly saw birds, although we did get a good look at the resident crocodile, and off in the distance there were more hippos, but mostly we saw birds – bee catchers, cormorants, an eagle and far more than I can name now.

We also had a stunning sunset.

After that it was time to return to the lodge for another home cooked dinner, before bed. The next morning we left, after a brilliant sunrise and of course breakfast. Our destination this time was back to Namibia, and Etosha National Park, and lots of safari drives.
